Debate over Orthodoxy’s stance on war tends to circulate around the question, ‘which of the major positions in Western war ethics is most compatible with Orthodoxy, Just War Theory, Pacifism, Crusade, or Political Realism?’  While some Orthodox argue for either “just war” or “pacifism,” others argue that none of the four fits with Orthodoxy’s historical witness or theological-ethical vision.
