We are fast approaching our 2012 Annual Meeting, which will take place between September 20-22, at St. Vladimir’s Theological Seminary, in Crestwood, NY. On our recently updated website, you will find the schedule of our meeting, as well as other practical information concerning our gathering. As usual, one of the highlights of our event is Friday’s Florovsky Lecture, where the Very Rev. Dr. John Behr will speak about “Reading the Fathers Today,” focusing on what is theology and how it is done in an academic context.
All our presentations will take place in the Metropolitan Philip Auditorium. We will join the St. Vladimir’s community for prayer in the chapel, and we will share our meals with them in the cafeteria. The cost for all the meals, coffee breaks, and the Friday night reception is $125. If you do not need all the meals, you have the option to register either for Thursday and Friday meals, or Friday and Saturday meals, for $100 in both cases. The registration for the meeting is a very inviting $40 if web-registered or received by our treasurer by September 10, or $50 at the door. Most of the participants will be housed at The Royal Regency Hotel, 165 Tuckahoe Road, Yonkers, NY 10710. You can contact the hotel directly at 914-476-6200 and make your reservation. Be sure to mention that you are coming for OTSA and you will receive a discounted price of $105+tax, which includes breakfast (in case you cannot make it to the Seminary’s cafeteria in time). Sharing a room is allowed. We will provide transportation between the hotel and the Seminary throughout our meeting. Concerning lodging, The good news is that St. Vladimir’s has a very good enrollment this year. The bad news is that only two double rooms are available for us. Given that the cost is only $60 per double room (or $30 per person) per night, graduate students should have the first opportunity to occupy these rooms. If there are still spaces available or more rooms open up, we invite participants whose institutions do not cover their housing to stay at the Seminary. Please contact the OTSA secretary concerning Seminary housing, or the hotel directly if you prefer to stay at The Royal Regency Hotel.
We strongly encourage all participants to register early, using our website. In the unusual situation that you are unable to do so, please mail your registration to Dr. Will Cohen, OTSA Treasurer, Theology Dept., University of Scranton, Scranton, PA 18510.
As in past years, if you are presenting a paper, we will cover your registration and meals. However, given the limited resources of our society, we would be grateful if your institution were able to cover these costs. And yet, we want all accepted papers to be presented and we will not let financial considerations stand in the way.
Looking forward to seeing you in September,
Fr. Radu Bordeianu, OTSA President
