Towards a Theology of Marriage

Abstract:
Using a case study of marital infidelity, this paper will explicate a theology of marriage as the path of acquiring the Holy Spirit: becoming partakers of the divine nature, as a process of acquiring divine love for the person of the spouse. This paper proposes to operationalize this theology of marriage within the interactions of married life as a daily process of turning towards one another. This paper will explore how a theology of turning towards offers spouses a pathway for healing for individuals independent, but related to, the choices of a spouse, and pastors a framework for helping couples.
