The Orthodox Theological Society in America will hold its Annual Meeting at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, beginning in the afternoon June 4 and ending around noon June 6, 2009. More information will be forthcoming.
The Society is very pleased to announce that Robert F. Taft, S.J., will deliver the Annual Georges Florovsky Lecture.
Members wishing to present papers should submit an abstract of no more than 250 words to the Secretary of the Society for review. Abstracts must follow the form below.
Proposals for papers on any topic are encouraged, even those presented before in other academic forums, but the Society is interested in receiving proposals on the following topics: the dialogue of Orthodox Christianity with Islam, especially in light of the recent document “A Common Word Between Us and You” (see www.acommonword.com for the text); issues in the Byzantine Church, especially liturgy; studies on the “material culture” of Orthodoxy in America. Members are also encouraged to organize a panel, dealing with a single theme or a panel devoted to a recent book, especially if the book’s author could attend the session.
Presenters will be given 20-25 minutes for presentation of the paper (approximately 10-12 pages) with time for questions and discussion. These time limits will be strictly enforced.
Abstracts of accepted papers will be posted on the Society’s website as part of the Annual Meeting program.
Abstracts should be received by the Secretary of the Society no later than February 15, 2009.
Authors whose papers are accepted for presentation are the guests of the Society to the Annual Meeting, i.e., they pay no registration for their attendance.
